About SCOPE50
WE ARE DEDICATED TO
VOTER REGISTRATION
SCOPE50 was formed in 2015 during the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 SCOPE PROJECT. This reunion was a commemorative celebration for the dedicated SCOPE volunteers and Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) staff.
OUR PURPOSE
SCOPE50’s primary purpose is to promote and encourage voter registration nationally, by preserving the voting rights story and supporting access to the ballot throughout the country.
SCOPE50 is a non-partisan organization. We will not work for nor support any candidate or party. We will not be in opposition to any candidate. Our main purpose is voter registration and educating people on a grassroots level on the responsibility of citizenship.
Donations to SCOPE50 are tax-deductible.
OUR MISSION INCLUDES:
1) implementing an ORAL HISTORY PROJECT to collect the personal accounts of 1960s SCOPE Project volunteers, Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) staff, local activists, and others working for voting rights under the direction of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and SCLC;
2) making the Oral History Project available to educators, students, voting rights organizations, and archives;
3) encouraging voter registration of historically suppressed populations, including, but not limited to, African-Americans and the poor;
4) assisting community organization and political education efforts aimed at increasing voting among the populations described above;
5) promoting nonviolence as articulated by Dr. King;
6) providing the expertise and experience of our Legacy Members to voting rights organizations who request their services.

OUR PROGRAMS
SCOPE50 works in various communities on voter registration and political education. We partner with local community organizations, institutions, and churches ~ such as the League of Women Voters for example.
We also go into high schools and encourage juniors and seniors to register to vote and teach them about the importance of voting. We will go to colleges as well to promote voter registration.
Future programs might include working to improve literacy and basic educational skills and fighting childhood poverty.
SCOPE50 will also work to preserve the history of SCOPE and the Civil Rights Movement by sharing documents and other items with historical associations and institutions, such as the Library of Congress.
